I had to hear the Juice Crew “Mr. Magic Tribute” before I posted it. I had to make sure this wasn’t some compilation remix of old verses, or some other type of audio trickery. It’s not. Happily, it is an impressive old-school-to-the-new coming together of Juice Crew members to spit their vocal condolences to radio pioneer Mr. Magic, who passed away in 2009 [Every Saturday, Mr. Magic, Marley Marl].
The song includes original Juice Crew affiliates Big Daddy Kane, MC Shan, Craig G, Roxanne Shante, Marley Marl, Biz Markie and TJ Swann.
As I said in the post announcing his death, “In radio, there are few who can truly be called pioneers, and Mr. Magic (R.I.P.) is one of them.”
