Manny Faces is an award-winning new media journalist and digital strategist, former co-columnist for a major weekly newspaper, and a freelance writer for newspapers, magazines and websites. Manny is perhaps best known for founding and running Birthplace Magazine.
Subtitled “New York Hip Hop: Past, Present and Future,” this thriving online publication is an entertainment and lifestyle destination focusing on hip hop music and culture, highlighting news, artists, events and organizations, concentrating solely on the New York metropolitan area.
The goal is to not only provide a respectable, professional media platform to deliver such stories, but to pioneer a reinvention of music journalism, one with a regional and genre-specific focus, through utilization of cutting-edge internet and social media technologies, as well as good old-fashioned quality journalism.
Birthplace Magazine won a New York Music Award for Best Music Website and is recognized in the Columbia School of Journalism’s “News Frontier” database. It is the only urban music based publication listed on the New York Times “blogroll”.
In addition to Birthplace Magazine, Manny is creator and host of The NY Hip Hop Report, a popular weekly, online talk radio program and The Manny Faces Show, a bi-weekly, long-form interview show that features creatives from many different disciplines. He is also an accomplished DJ, producer and remixer.
