Bars Mitzvah ft. Jesse Abraham, Fresh Daily, Kosha Dillz, Top $ Raz & More – Feb. 3 at Southpaw, BK

Jesse Abraham and Team Kosha present Bars Mitzvah, a.k.a. the underground/independent hip hop show that you should go to, if only because the title is way cleverer than most show names.

But aside from the linguistic lark, Bars Mitzvah will likely prove to be an evocatively entertaining endeavor, featuring a diverse lineup of talented MCs, all intelligent, introspective and irrepressibly creative.

Like Jesse Abraham, whose “Little Bit of Everything” video made top hats (and Scott Baio) hot again (come on, tops hats were always hot), while his video for “Yoga” made cute Yoga chicks cuter.

No, I suppose they were cute without him, so scratch that. (I’m still waiting for my private lessons.)

(Ew. No. Not from Jesse, from the Yoga girls.)

(Can we get back to describing this show? Thank you.)

The guy who is probably, fittingly, fresh pretty much everyday, Fresh Daily will be in the house (we hope he will bring his grandparents from his “Thanx” video), and of course the great Kosha Dillz, who you can best believe “kicked your ass in 2010“. Add to this already eclectically hip bunch, Top $ Raz, whose “Golden” has stayed in my “current hot shit” playlist since September because I refuse to move it.

Call now, operators are standi.. Wait. There’s more!

Premonition, whose album The Build we positively reviewed a while ago, and who just dropped a smooth video for “The Writer’s Block,” from said album. Jeanette Berry (who I haven’t seen yet, but look forward to seeing), Kyle Rapps (who had a dope joint last year with Homeboy Sandman & KRS-One called “Love, Love“), Millie Holidae (who I know nothing about so please ignore theses words in between these parentheses) and special guests galore. DJ Sosa is a great DJ (as well as a great audio engineer), and he’ll be handling the wheels of steel. The whole shindig is to be hosted by Isha “Ice” Cole.

We, BirthplaceMag.com, are a proud sponsor of the event, which means you, the fans, get to buy us a few drinks! Isn’t that awesome? What other New York-based hip hop web publication named Birthplace Magazine lets you do that? None, that’s who. God, we are awesome! I like amaretto.

So, with video premieres, talented MCs, the chance to buy me drinks, a fantastic DJ, and undoubtedly, plenty more Jewish puns throughout the event, it will clearly be a good night for New York hip hop.

Be there, or be ריבוע.
