“New York Will Not Lose, Ever.” So states a sonically manipulated Jay-Z during the intro to Kevin Casey’s new mixtape, Live From New York: 1994-2001. We came across this project thanks to a positive review on etmusiquepourtous.com, and immediately upon hearing the intro, we knew this was a quality product. We love a good intro. We also love a good mixtape, and a good DJ with good production and good mixes and a good cover and good song selection and a good concept. Live satisfies all of this, as you and your speakers will share a mutual respect and pride for the Big Apple’s contribution to hip-hop music history.

Live_From_New_York_frontOh, and who is Kevin Casey? Um. We don’t know. We’re pretty sure we should know who Kevin Casey is, because he can’t possibly be a total new jack. If he is, this is a damn fine rookie effort. If he’s not, then we slept. (We’re pretty sure he’s not THIS Kevin Casey, or THIS Kevin Casey, lol)… In any event, his Live From New York project is as clean, crisp and clear as NYC November air and is a worthy addition to anyone’s mixtape collection.
