Oh Dan, you're so cute when you're mad. Now, I doubt you'll come back to check to see if anyone commented back, but just in case...

First off, note the little tags at the top of the story. One of them says "opinion". That's because, this is an "opinion" piece, not a story, and as such, we have no journalistic obligation to "reach out to someone who was actually there" who could tell us what happened.

However.

The problem that "sparked the violence" wasn't the stupid, drunken crowd but poor planning? Really? So, let us get this straight.. You're saying there WAS violence, and a stupid, drunk crowd, but that violence was the planners fault? So it's OK to get drunk, act rowdy, throw things into a crowd of people, start fights, and act ignorant, because hey, there should be so many people here in the first place?

That's a jackassy way of looking at things.

Of course there was poor planning, and poor crowd control. We're sure there weren't enough cops and that way more people came than expected.

But since when does that give people the right to throw chairs (like in the video), or flower-pots, like the news story says? When is it OK to "riot" as a witness told the newspaper. Is Melanie Gerard a liar? Or Jasmine Arroyo? Did they take to the internet to protest the Daily News misquoting them?

Again, we're ALL for advocating for hip hop, and we know that mainstream news will slant against hip hop 9 out of 10 times. We agree that this was a poorly executed event, but when there is a big ol' rap show for free, and for whatever reason, it's not going down at the pace you would like, the thing not to do is get drunk and fight and throw things.

No one needed to be "actually there" to know that.

This story is completely bullshit. Being someone who was at the show, I think it is safe to say that the problem that sparked the violence wasn't the stupid, drunken crowd, but rather, poor planning by the people running the event (planned for 8000 people and about 25000 showed up), as well as a lack of police officers at the event (I counted less than 10 during my time there). Therefore, the city screwed up on this one, as did the magazine that organized and planned the event.

Next time don't listen to the police reports and news channels, but rather, try to reach out to someone who was actually there and actually could tell you what happened.

Great story though. Jackass.
