The Black August Hip Hop Project, which works to fulfill their mission to “promote human rights though supporting and influencing the global development of Hip Hop culture,” is hosting The Black August Hip Hop Concert event at Highline Ballroom on August 13. The concert event will feature a plethora of conscious-minded, substantiative and artistic hip hop artists.
The Black August Hip Hop Project, and subsidiary, the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, has held annual concerts of this kind since 1998, and organized several delegations of artists to travel to various countries around the world, seeking to facilitate exchanges between international communities through hip hop, helping to “promote awareness about the social and political issues that affect our global communities”.
This year’s Concert will feature many hip hop heavyweights, including Dead Prez, Pharoahe Monch, Cody Chestnutt, Homeboy Sandman, ADM, Kalae All Day, Sadat X, Hasan Salaam, Akir, La Bruja, Divine of the Dey, Hakim Green, Lah Tere and Bajah & The Dry Eye Crew.
A pretty formidable lineup, no?
Several DJs, including DJ Metaphysic, DJ Aura, DJ K-Salaam and DJ Spawn will hold down musical orchestration.
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 the day of the show. You can purchase tickets online here.
