Hip hop duo Sleepwalkas, consisting of Ciph Diggy and K. Gaines, are soon releasing their long-awaited (and equally long-titled) album Cookie Cutter Cornballs Can’t Cut It On This CD, celebrating alongside 2 Hungry Bros. & 8thW1 (No Room For Dessert) for a talent-packed event on Monday, July 26 at Southpaw, featuring an onslaught of top NYC hip hop talent such as Homeboy Sandman (one of our “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck“), Fresh Daily (who we JUST posted about), Reef The Lost Cauze, Brokn Englsh, Likwuid and many more.
The title of their album may be long, but the meaning is clear. Sleepwalkas do not fit “the mold”… Well, unless your mold consists of hot lyrical content emphatically delivered by two fierce, energetic, charasmatic and hardworking MCs who flow over consistently hot beats and put on a hell of a live performance. Then ok, yes. They fit in that mold.
But otherwise, NO, and so cookie cutter cornballs, best ye all beware. After witnessing these Brooklyn beasts on stage as special guest performers at Premonition’s release party for his album, The Build, we knew that Sleepwalkas were indeed one group to follow.
Speaking of following, Sleepwalkas hit us on twitter the other day, and said, all bold and cocky-like, “you are gonna love this new joint new single “Rhyme Flow” ft. Sadat X download”.
Yeah, yeah sure, do they know how many times we ….
….
….
Oh. Damn. That’s hip hop that we know. They were right. We do love it.
You probably will too.
