The 4th Annual Rapathon will begin Saturday, July 26, 2010 at 4:00pm at The Hip Hop Culture Center in Harlem, and continue until Sunday evening at 7:00pm for a 27 hour long, non-stop display of lyrical skill from upwards of 150 rap wordsmiths, hailing not only from the tri-state area, but all over the world. The requirements, simple: spit rhymes for 90 seconds. No cursing.
This year, the event will be documented by Ralph McDaniels, of Video Music Box fame, who will be broadcasting the Rapathon live via his internet program. In addition, there will be a special one hour tribute to Big Pun, the late Bronx MC, with participants freestyling remarks on his legacy and impact on hip hop (5-6pm, Sunday).
Few events exude hip hop flavor and New York City style better than the Rapathon, and it is one of those unique events that fans of the music and supporters of the culture should definitely not miss.
The Hip Hop Culture Center in Harlem is located at 2309 Frederick Douglass Blvd., the 2nd Floor of the Magic Johnson Theater. For more information, visit www.h2c2harlem.com/rapathon-2010/. The event is open to the public, with a $10 entry fee.
