Hopefully, the African blessings bestowed upon Swizz Beatz, Alicia Keys and their unborn lovechild covered finances as well. On top of a recent lawsuit filed by his now-ex-wife Mashonda, claiming Swizz owes more than $344,000 in back child support, (a claim which Swizz has vehemently denied), a federal tax lien was recently filed against Swizz Beatz by the IRS, totaling $652,727.15.
The judgment, filed in early June, is the latest in a series of financial hiccups for the super-producer. Before their divorce was final, Swizz (aka Kasseem Dean) and Mashonda were in the throes of foreclosure on their home in upstate New York, an apparently still unresolved debt now totaling nearly $4,000,000. In early 2010, the two were listed as defendants in an action where a judge ordered the return of a foreclosed Bentley, as payments had stopped with more than $100,000 still outstanding. To top it all off, the two were, at one point, on the hook with the IRS to the tune of $1.4 million for federal back taxes, and more than $160,000 in New York State taxes.
It is unclear how any of those debts might have been distributed in their divorce. At the moment, it does not appear as if any of these debts have been paid. The latest lien, (the $652,727.15), is in Swizz’ name alone.
Totaling all of this up, it’s possible that the hit-maker owes more than $6.6 million in tax, foreclosure and child support debts alone.
Now, we know, when millionaires, marriage, divorce, stipulations, marital assets, business expenses, lawyers and accountants are all at play, it’s nearly impossible for outsiders to have a full grasp of the entire structure or status of any particular entertainer’s finances, so any of these debts may totally be under control, or may soon be. After all, Swizz Beatz was listed in Forbes as earning $17 million in 2008 and $8 million in 2009. Keys was listed in 2008 as making about $15 million, and has recently put her Long Island home on the market for $3.85 million. The soon-to-be-married power couple are reportedly buying Lenny Kravitz’s penthouse duplex in Manhattan for $14.5 million.
Here’s to hoping A. Keys knows she’s inheriting a bit more than just Swizzy’s baby mama drama.
