Rakim, a native of Long Island, returns to the NY area tonight to headline an installment of the Legends of Hip Hop concert series at The Crazy Donkey in Farmingdale.
The man who many place at the top of their “top five, dead or alive” lists grew up in nearby Wyandanch. Local artists are scheduled to open for the veteran performer, as the series of concerts, presented by Terence Trend Inc. continues.
The Legends of Hip Hop series launched on March 25th and featured dual headliners Big Daddy Kane and Doug E Fresh. The next scheduled installment is April 22, with Grandmaster Flash.
Of particular interest will be opener Jreadi, a solo artist who will be one of the opening acts, and is Rakim’s nephew. Fuse 100, Jay Godz, Ancient Tongue, Fly Guy Family and Conceptual Elements are also listed as openers.
Rakim’s career covers more than 20 years, beginning with Paid In Full (1987), and recently, The Seventh Seal. Many consider the pioneering lyricist to be one the genre’s greatest artists.

Rakim, the Strong Island native who many consider to be the greatest lyricist in hip hop history, returns to the NY area this week for a solo headlining performance at The Crazy Donkey, in Farmingdale.
The “God Emcee”, who hails from nearby Wyandanch, will hit the stage following an assortment of local talent, leading the second in a series of concerts presented by Terence Trend Inc., which launched on March 25th with dual powerhouse headliners Big Daddy Kane and Doug E Fresh. The Legends of Hip Hop series continues on April 22 with hip hop founding member, Grandmaster Flash.
Rakim is currently celebrating more than 20 years in his musical career, starting with the 1987 release of Paid In Full, and most recently, his long awaited return with The Seventh Seal, a project delayed in part due to a musical relationship with West Coast veteran producer Dr. Dre, lasting several years, but that never quite materialized.
