Ah, it’s always a good feeling when we can say “well, we called that one”…
A ways back, as BirthplaceMag.com was getting up to steam, we stumbled upon Kalae All Day, the eccentric, heat-spitting, statuesque songstress, first hearing about her winning Brooklyn Bodega’s Show and Prove. Then we met her at the Hip Hop Subway Series. After that, we’ve written her up a few times, including the release of her single “O.G.LYRIKALBOOKBAGGER“, the release party for her debut album, *AFROMATIKNEOHIPPIEROCK*SOLEMUZIK*, and then her recent release with Mic Wilson, “BREAKITDOWN“.
For a young site like us, that’s a lot of coverage. Maybe that happens on some sites because the artist paid for coverage. Or maybe because they have a relationship with someone at the site. Not here.
Here, we just like what she does.
As further testimony to our fantastic judgment, Ms. All Day just dropped the debut video for her debut single from her debut album. The Noisemaker Media-directed video for “O.G.LYRIKALBOOKBAGGER” delivers a surprise verse from another New York underground heavy hitter, Homeboy Sandman (who we REALLY need to write more about as well), and cameos from some other artists we’ve covered, such as YC The Cynic, Kalil Kash and Final Outlaw, so we feel a strange sense of pride at Kalae’s effort. Though we obviously had no part in any of the creativity, we’re supportive of good, talented New York-area hip hoppers, and happy when someone we pointed out to people come through with a dope product.
Yeah, maybe it’s a “we told you so” thing, but our intentions are good. Anyway, it’s not about us, check out Kalae All Day and Homeboy Sandman in “O.G.LYRIKALBOOKBAGGER”, directed by Mark Carranceja.
